Not the Answer

No Kill Shelters are something I have always been opposed to.

This is a good reason- Toronto Humane Society- Killing them with Kindness

Warning- The photos are graphic, as is the content.

Anyone who believes that No Kill Shelters are the answer needs to read the article.

I want to rant and rave, but I don't really have it in me at the moment. The article tells the story well.

Shouldn't it be: No Kill Shelters run wrong are something I have always been opposed to.

I mean shouldn't all animal shelters aim at killing less and adopting more pets out? There are and will always be people in the position of leadership (an any organization or business) that don't do a good job, that doesn't mean the business or organization's mission is wrong, just the leadership and how they are running it is wrong.

We don't kill homeless children and I hope the day will come (and soon) when we will not longer feel it is right to kill homeless pets.

Thank-you for posting this article on your blog - those of us who live in the Toronto & surrounding area are needless to say furious, appalled & committed to getting this manager out of there. The situation is heartbreaking for the animals - there are some really courageous people speaking out on their behalf. THS used to be a safe haven - not anymore.

I won't go into details. But regardless if it run correctly or not, No Kill is not the answer.

Dogs typically aren't a huge issue in my area. But cats are. There are cats who have lived in cages for 10 years. 10 years. Sure, they get out once in a while, and people come visit them. But it's not the same.

Dogs and Cats aren't meant to live in kennels, crates, and cages. They are supposed to be part of our families, and our lives. If there is no one out there that is looking for that particular dog is it not kinder to euthanise than to have it live alone and miserable for it's life.

I am not saying euthanise old, sick, or not your typical easy adoption dogs, I am sasying give them their chance- advertise, switch with a different shelter/rescue even, but then do what is kind and give that dog a big hug as they euthanise it.

I think that people who believe in no kill have blinders on, and need to open their eyes. You can't save them all.

Wow! Thanks for posting this article, I had no idea that this was going on, awful. Very, very sad. My friends have adopted two animals from the THS - they've lucked out so far. Hopefully enough people speak out that things can begin to change.
