Too busy to post much but we all had a great weekend! The dogs were awesome, and the trial was a lot of fun.
Boone-
Masters Snooker Q, Steeplechase Q
He had a great day on Sunday- and we were connected in the ring all day. Saturday not so much- he was happy, but pretty flaky. :) I am happy with him though, and he certainly enjoyed himself!
Pixel
Adv. Jumpers Q, Adv. Jumpers Q, Starters Snooker Q, Starters Gamblers Q. Starters Standard Q Earned her Starters Game Dog Title.
She was a little trooper and ran hard for me. She is such a good girl and does whatever I ask her to. She had some contact issues so I didn't do any contacts at all with her on Sunday. We still have much work to do in that department. :)
Wicca
Steeplechase Q
She tried SO hard! We had two bars ALL WEEKEND. Seriously, that is awesome for her. She paid attention and did what i told her to. Her contacts and weaves were awesome. I am very proud of her- we had some awesome runs with just a little blip here and there. I need to continue to work on my decceleration issues with her; Sometimes she reads them too soon, and some times not at all. We really need to find the balance....oh, and we very nearly ran a Jumpers course clean until I forgot number 14 and got lost.
Vito
no Q's but had LOTS of fun. He was fast, and weaved, and did the tire. :) He was seriously cute. He did leave me every run to go visit with the ring crew but I'd rather that than have him leave and bark at them!
Here is a video of Pixel's 1st Advanced Jumpers Q. She is such a good girl! I can hardly believe she is in Advanced already!

Agility in the Rain....
It rained- alot. And was almost unbearably cold. But we survived and mostly it was a great weekend. I love outdoor trials- even in the rain. And it was great to hang out with dog people all weekend.
My dogs did really great- even in the rain and I am very proud of all of them.
I was very sad to not run Boone- and so was he I think! I am betting his first trial back he will be more than just a little excited! He got to come and watched and visited but it's not the same as getting to play. Poor Guy. He is starting back this week in classes so that should make him happy!
Vito had a lot of fun, and I think was pretty happy to be out. He was a little weirded out by the people on the side lines- but managed to stay pretty focused on me. I am pretty proud of him. He doesn't get much training and certainly hasn't sequenced that many obstacles before. He came very close to getting two Q's on the weekend- in standard and in jumpers. He ducked under the tire in both runs, but otherwise was great. He ran in three events total.
Pixel did so well. She was her normal spunky self and didn't even care about the rain! She did exactly what I asked her and it was quite refreshing to have a dog that responds so quickly. She did have a few moments of young dog stuff- she nearly left the ring to go visit, but came back (and wrapped around the ring barrier in the mean time), and it is very obvious I have more work to do on her contacts. Her speed is improving each time, and I think she will get faster with more experience and confidence. Handling wise I am very happy with her- both rear crosses, and front crosses were no problem for her. She qualified in all four events she was entered in- she now moves to Advanced jumpers! (on a side note I should mention this took Wicca a few years....) I am very excited to continue training and running her. It is just so neat to see it all come together. She is seriously the cutest thing ever and I just adore her.
Wicca was great. Truly. The videos may not show it but this was our best weekend at a trial in a long time. She actually listened. Sure, we knocked a few bars, and had some miscommunication, I was late, she was early...lol But she listened and tried hard. I can't ask for much more than that. I tried to stay calm, and run like I meant it all at once. It is hard to find that balance sometimes. She had a few weave pole wipe outs- she got stuck twice on the steeplechase poles. Her contacts were not bad- although she early released on a dogwalk. The gamble was great- all that hard work on directionals has really started to pay off. So overall I am pretty happy. She earned two Q's- a Steeplechase, and another Gamble.
I am having trouble with the music- I chose the Queen song- Another one bites the dust- but youtube said no way. I chose a replacement song but not sure when or if ever it will work.
All in all a pretty wonderful weekend. I am feeling more in the groove so to speak. It's a good feeling.

Pixel's Debut
Pixel ran her frist two events a trial today and did awesome. She wasn't nervous, or gawking around, or at all bothered by the judge or pole setters. She just did her job. She is seriously cute.
The first class was snooker and i found a nice flowy path for her. We did awesome and I was stoked to get all the way to 7 before the buzzer went. And then I found out I forgot part of the #6 combination so we didn't get enough points. We were short 3 points for the Q....all because I didn't pay attention in the walk through! :o)
The second class she was in was Jumpers and she did great- more confidence this time, and had pretty decent speed. She was very focused on what she was doing and moved ahead nicely. I am very pleased with how she did. She may not be fast like her big sister, but makes up for it in accuracy. She earned her first Q!
oh, and I apolagise for the cheesy music on Pixels video- I couldn't get iMovie to recognize my iPod for some reason...so had limited choice. :)
Wicca will get a blog post of her own tomorrow...but it pretty much will consist of Wicca being a jerk....

CKC Agility weekend
I don't play CKC agilty very often. I did one weekend last year in September and prior to that I can't even remember. It is a very different organisation than the one I play in normally. The courses are quite different and the rules are also a bit different.
Wicca needed one novice standard q to move to intermediate...she didn't get it but we sure had fun! Novice CkC courses are Very simple- no weaves, 13 obstacles and very much straight lines with a side change in a tunnel or off the table. As you can imagine Wicca thought it was pretty fun to get to run in a straight line...the heights are different though so she had to jump 2" higher then her normal height. It was very noticeable for her but she did really well. She knocked four bars- one in each run. ;)
She was naughty too- start line issues, she self released on the dogwalk twice (the second time I made her fix it and she was better after. But she had a good time and wasn't lame or sore at all. I think it is good for them sometimes to be able to just open up and run- wicca sure enjoyed herself!
I bought myself a video camera on Friday so got to try it out- kim videoed my runs for me. Here are three runs of the naughty dog. :o)
In the end I didn't take Boone- I pulled him because I thought the travel would be too stressful for him. It was a six hour drive each way. He would have really loved the courses, but there is another few CKC trials I hope to get to this summer...
So overall a nice, easy going weekend. The handling was entertaining to say the least, and it was nice to see some new dogs, and breeds I don't see often.

Calgary Agility Trial- video posted!

This weekend I entered Wicca in five things only- no standards, or challenge class. I am really going to limit her agility this year, and at this point standards aren't that important. I was a little sad to not run her in the standards, but I could tell by the end of the weekend that it was a good choice- she isn't stiff or sore at all.
She ran awesome this weekend. We were very much a team and I am just so proud of us.
Her gamble on Saturday was wicked. The gamble itself wasn't all that difficult- but lots of dogs didn't get it, and only a few did the mini gamble twice. Wicca got 108 points, and another gamble Q.
She knocked the first bar in Snooker- which required me to do some fast thinking on my feet. She totally messed up my plan and our time ran out before we could finish. I was certain we didn't have enough points for the Q, imagine my surprise when her name was called out for the Q!! She had 40 points exactly. Which is exactly how many you need. This earned us our Snooker title! I never thought I'd see the day...
Her last run on Saturday was jumpers, and it wasn't an easy one! We had two bars- both of which were my fault. It was a serpentine to a push thru and I was just a fraction of a second too late. She slammed both bars. Otherwise it was very nice, and very fast.
Sunday started out great with an awesome Steeplechase run. She took down one bar, but was fast enough to make up the time for the Q. She was one of the fastest dogs overall. The course actually required handling- which was nice for a change and was lots of fun.
Another snooker round- this one a little harder than the one on Saturday. She thought she'd out do her Saturday snooker and knocked TWO red bars...geez. I really had to work at getting her around that course. But we did it and made it to seven before the buzzer. And we Qualified. No kidding. I was super excited when I found out. This time with 41 points... lol
Here is the video of the sunday snooker run. Thanks Kim!
Talk about thinking on your feet!
I used to be so scared of snooker, I hated it with a passion. I still don't love it. But am comfortable with the game, and with my dog. And it is noticeable.
And that was it for her. Seriously it was an awesome weekend with her. Her Q rate is never that high, so I am pretty thrilled.

Boone didn't have such a stellar weekend, in fact it was probably the worst ever for him. Saturday he was completely stressed out and wouldn't connect with me at all. In warm up he was perfect- tail wagging, having fun- and then I'd put him on the start line and it was all over. Sunday was a bit better and his steeplechase wasn't awful..but still it's not the same dog I had in class last week.
I need to figure out what is causing his stress- I have a few theories. Contacts- he had a bit of a melt down last week about the frame, possibly he is still worried about making a mistake. Weavepoled- again this weekend he was skipping out. The bases weren't the problem as he sometimes popped out at the third pole. His weaves were PERFECT in class last week...Or maybe it is physical? He is kind of a wussy dog so you'd think I'd notice if he was sore, but I haven't. I will keep a close eye on him though and make sure there is no limping, hitching, or stiffness...

Training Troop Trial Results
I am so tired. But if I don't type it now I will have forgotten by tomorrow.
The weekend started rough, I didn't have a great sleep and was kind of "off." My weird mood totally affected the dogs and I had a hard time concentrating. As the day went on we all got better, but the first few runs are a bit of a blur. The second day was MUCH better, and I was more with it. Here is what I remember about each run, and the results.
Boone
Saturday
Masters Gamblers
he was very distracted and unfocused. Our opening was poor, but we did almost get the gamble, so I was pretty impressed with him. His distance skills are improving!
Advanced Std 1
again he was very unfocused, and did some "drifting" away...he did however have great weaves, and some really nice rear crosses on my part.
Advanced Std 2
i don't remember this course at all...or what went wrong...perhaps an off course tunnel?
Masters Jumpers- Q!
Smoked it. It was a nice course with lots of flow and he LOVED it. Beautiful. Probably one of his best runs ever.
Sunday
Steeplechase
a really nice run- amazing weave entry, and then I sent him off course. Sigh. I spent so much time pumping him up I forgot to go over the course in my head before our turn...
Advanced Standard 3
another great run- we had a bobble of some sort (a refusal maybe) but he was mostly focused and pretty speedy!
Advanced Standard 4- Q!!!!! This was the Q he needed to get his AADC, and move to Masters!
Amazing run. He was completely focused and did an amazing serpentine. This was not an easy course, and I am very proud of us to have run it clean.
Masters Snooker
I had a good plan and everything. :o) And then he drifted away in the closing and we got tweeted. Stupid Snooker.
Overall I am so impressed with him- he had some brilliant moments. His weaves were great all weekend, he only had one run where he popped out. His contacts were great and we are working really well together. My handling is very good for Boone. I am so excited for him to be in Masters. He is most definitely ready for that. There are a few things I need to work on after this trial- running through obstacles (snooker was painful), his turn cue was a little rusty, tight sequences, and distance. Oh, and I need to add some more distraction and get him more pumped up in training- we really need to get rid of his disconnecting during a run....he only ever does it at a trial so I need to figure out how to get him to do in training so I can fix it...
Wicca
Saturday
Masters Gamblers- Q
I was surprised to read that we got the Q for this. The closing was no problem...but our opening was awful. I had a decent path picked out but Wicca had other ideas. She was pretty much taking things at random and not listening...I was annoyed.
Masters Standard 1
She broke her startline when I was trying to lead out..I didn't correct her and let her go...and it spiraled downhill from there...I really should have taken her off, instead it went from bad to worse...I will never learn apparently.
She had a HUGE long break between the standard and jumpers. I didn't enter her in the Challenge class. I think it was a good break for her.
Masters Jumpers- Q!!!! omg. I was SO excited.
We worked hard for this Q, and almost every bar ticked. :o) But we did it- she was paying attention and working hard to keep the bars up. I was focused and trying desperately to remember where I was going. The course was really nice though, and I was thrilled to get through it with a Q. This was one of my goals for this trial so that makes me happy.
Sunday
Steeplechase- Q
This was a really nice run. My handling was very good, and I was confident. Wicca was very good and had great weaves. I did shape the entries for her though. We had a great time, and one bar. So we still Q'd even with the 5 seconds added to our time. We had one of the fastest times overall.
Masters Standard 2
I need to work more on wicca's teeter contact. I tried to front cross off the teeter (not normally an issue) and well, she went flying the wrong way and then I was all flustered and nearly sent her over the wrong jump....
Masters Standard 3
lots of rear crosses in this course...which would have been fine if wicca wouldn't second guess. I have no idea why but she pulled off a jump not once, but twice on a rear cross...
Masters Snooker
we got to restart two times, (one due to judging error, and one due to a timer error) and STILL managed to get tweeted off in under 20 seconds. She was knocking bars like mad...makes it hard to play snooker when there are no jumps left standing...
Overall it was an okay weekend with Wicca- we are just off as a team...I am so worried about her physically that I am not concentrating on handling the dog, and remembering the courses. My memory sucks at the best of times, and when you are running a dog like Wicca it is pretty important that you know where you are going! But we did have some really great moments- her contacts were good (except the teeter) and I was so thrilled with that Jumpers run...Her startlines SUCKED however, so we will be working on that a lot over the next few months...Also am going to go back and do some more jump grids.
I ran Ally (the sheltie I dogsat for a month) and I was very happy with her rear crosses and obstacle commitment. She had some really great moments, and we got a Gamblers Q together. Ally and Tripp went home with their Mom today. It was SO cute to see them with her after being gone for so long. Tripp remembered her, which was the cutest thing ever and Ally was very excited too.
So, that's that from the weekend. Go Dog Go students all did awesome- there were some really great runs, and some shining moments. We sure have a great group of people. The Pizza party on Saturday was lots of fun, although short lived when we all fizzled out after an hour...Saturday was a very long day.
Sarah videotaped some of my runs- including Boone's last Advanced Standard run- I will post it when I get it.
Oh, and I ran Kaleb in Snooker briefly until he ran out of the ring looking for his mom...it was fun while it lasted! Everyone needs to send good thoughts and healing vibes to Sarah- she popped her knee out on the last run of the day with Gyp. Hopefully once the swelling goes down she'll be okay! I am sure she will blog about it later in the week, but in the meantime a few good thoughts wouldn't hurt!
